Last year at Nationals
This Saturday, August 9th I will be competing in the Olympic Distance National Championships!!! After placing 4th last year at Ironman Lake Tahoe, I qualified to participate in the National Championships for being in the top 10% of my age group. I did this race last year with my friend Chad from Team in Training and had a blast. The best part of the entire race? Chrissie freaking Wellington giving me my medal when I crossed the finish! In case you didn’t know, she is one of the greatest female triathletes of all time. As a star struck little age grouper, I fell on top of her and gave her a huge, sweaty hug and congratulated her on her race. Only problem? She didn’t actually do the race. Oh well, I am sure she appreciated my enthusiasm.
This year things are going to be a little different. I have my shiny BMC TM02 to ride on, I know the course, and my mom and Matt will be there performing Sherpa duties and cheering me on.
Last year at the National Championships on my trusty road bike.
It’s been a full year since I did an Olympic Distance triathlon, since Nationals last year, and I don’t really know what to expect going into this race. In my mind, I am still recovering from my injury post New Zealand. But in reality, I think I am doing a lot better than I am giving myself credit for. After winning the Aquabike last weekend and crushing Death Ride, I am a lot more confident but still have reservations about where I am at in my training. I am hoping I will snap out of it at some point and just realize I can do this.
My major focus this weekend is to improve my bike split. My swim may be a little slower than last year and I have no idea where my run is going to be. Sometimes I get out there and run and it feels like nothing has changed, and other times I feel like molasses. It’s just going to be a fun race again and I am not taking things too seriously. But I do plan on chicking quite a few guys and also some girls.
My start time is 9:18 am central time/7:18 am pacific time. Stalk me here: http://www.usatriathlon.org/events/usat/2014/08/olympic-distance-national-championships/coverage.aspx. And I will let everyone know my bib number as soon as I get it!
Chicking one last girl over the finish line. Look at that action all over my face.
